Playing at Snowbird/Guess That Critter (5/30/09)

We like to get out of the house so we do simple things like going up the canyons and playing. This time we headed up to Snowbird, cuz we could. ;0)
The kids love going out all together. They were excited and cute.
We stopped on the way up to let the kids walk on the bridge over the water. The creek was so full of water and rushing like mad. The kids would stand on the bridge and throw things over one side and watch it come out on the other end. "Pooh Sticks" is the name if anyone is familiar.
Just another shot of how full the creek was! Amazingly Beautiful!
There was a deer on the side of the road as we went up further so we stopped in hopes of a good picture. The deer was right there until I rolled down the window then it ran away. So not the best shot but oh-well.
We stopped once we hit Snowbird and walked around until the kids just couldn't handle not eating the snacks we brought with us. Every 5-10 minutes they were asking if it was time to eat yet. It was a bit chilly outside so we opted to go inside Cliff Lodge and eat. The crackers and cheese satisfied their bellies and then it was frizz-bee time in one of the open lounges. Nothing got broken, no worries...it's not like it's got fine pottery and stuff all around... ;0)
The kids loved it and we only lost the frizz-bee over the balcony a few times. Ayla was dancing in between her throws. It was really cute. You can see her here doing something Egyptian maybe...
When leaving the Cliff Lodge I spotted something unfamiliar on the grass. I grabbed our binoculars to have a look. I may be naive but Jeff, nor I, hadn't a clue what this was! LOL!! Can someone please let me know? Here's Ayla having a look but I don't think she knows either. But really cute though!!
Ready for it????.....................................................

It's huge!!! Giant squirrel on steroids was the only thing I could come up with??

Lacey, it is a Marmot, or more commonly known as a groundhog.

A groundhog? No kidding? I thought they were bigger! Your family is always so adventuresome...you and your kids will have so many fun memories!

Yes, it's a Yellow Bellied Marmot. I think Ayla needs to be shown the Steve Martin 'Walk Like An Egyptian' from Saturday Night Live :-)
